Chronicling America

Chronicles of America are historical American newspapers, are founded in 2005.

Chronicling America is a Website providing access to information about historic newspapers and select digitized newspaper pages, and is produced by the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP).

Enhancing access to America’s historic newspapers. This site allows you to search view, clip, and save newspaper pages from 1836 through 1922, as well as find information about American newspapers published between 1690 and the present.

Chronicles of America have now:

  • over 5.2 million individual newspaper pages available for viewing and/or downloading, representing 801 titles from 32 states (as of December 2012);
  • though the project initially targeted newspapers from the 1900-1910 period, it has gradually expanded so that papers scanned currently span the years 1836-1922.

Papers from 4 additional states – Iowa, North Carolina, Michigan,  and Maryland  – are slated to be added to the collection.
